MEET YOUR INVESTIGATOR

Matthew “Matt” Zalewski

Board Certified Criminal Defense Investigator · Former law enforcement · U.S. Army combat veteran

Matthew “Matt” Zalewski is a Board Certified Criminal Defense Investigator and licensed private investigator, and U.S. Army combat veteran serving attorneys, businesses, and private clients in Washington. His work includes criminal defense investigation, witness location, public-records research, background investigations, OSINT, and digital intelligence.

Matt brings more than 20 years of combined experience across investigations, law enforcement, military service, intelligence support, corporate security, and technical investigations. He approaches each matter by identifying what is known, testing what is assumed, and following the details that deserve closer examination.

His corporate investigative and security experience includes supporting Fortune 50 companies, high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs), and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs).

As a former patrol sergeant and law enforcement investigator, Matt conducted and supervised investigations involving violent crime, sexual assault, narcotics, gang activity, and highway interdiction. That experience informs his review of investigative decisions, timelines, witness accounts, and the evidence supporting a case.

His law enforcement recognition includes the Star of Texas Award, the Law Enforcement Purple Heart, and an Award for Valor. His U.S. Army combat service includes deployments and experience in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics, combat operations, and evidence collection.

At Cedar & Pine, Matt applies that background to careful case review, interviews, lawful information gathering, and reporting that puts findings in context. The goal is useful, well-supported information that helps clients and counsel understand their next steps.
